James D (aka JD or "High Tower")

Picture
Little is known about the about the early years of JD’s life except he must have been raised in a high crime area of the English countryside since his priorities are always safety and security - he always locks his Land Rover, even if he is 3inches away or it is within sight, and he keeps his money in one of those plastic "round the neck" money holders.

When James Davies (JD) first arrived at the University of Reading many people thought it was a publicity stunt by the cast of the 80's school teen TV show “Saved by the Bell”. People soon realised he was infact just a lanky whiteboy with a blonde afro who looked alot like the character "Screech" from this popular 80's show. Over the years that followed JD escaped the "Screech" jibes by joining the rowing club where he trained like an animal and always gave his all in every stoke and in every training session. You couldn't ask for more commitment.

Since completing a land management degree at University JD moved to London where he sneaks in additional cycle training on his daily commute, regularly racing anything going the same way. Unfortunately this means even ‘gentle' LEJOG training rides will inevitably end up becoming competitive when JD is around! This competitive streak will ensure JD has the legs to fly through this challenge. He is also a great wind break which will give others the opportunity to draft off him - providing they can catch him and actually get on his wheel!

The only blip in an otherwise stellar cycling career is that JD likes getting run over. Lets hope he can keep the bike upright long enough to complete the 1000miles! However, somehow he always seems to be financially better of after every RTA (Road Traffic Accident) - hmmmm???? So, this trip may prove to be more of an financial investment than a physical adventure.

His skills continue off the bike, JD is meticulously organised and will be key to keeping up the team moral as well as making sure we are on target to finish on time – with not too much time in the pub.
