James Luke (Jimmo aka "Princess Di")

Picture
James Luke is an invaluable member of the LEJOG team as he brings with him a number of priceless qualities. During his career in the IT engineering sector, James has been soley responsible for bringing together projects as vast and complex as Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and more recently the London 2012 Olympics; he now concedes that getting Mikey & Joe from one end of the country to the other would rank as his biggest organisational achievement. Jimmo will be aided by an innate sense of direction (he is rumoured to be the inspiration for NASA’s early GPS satellite systems) and he will also bring to the group the dependability and loyalty of a St. Bernard dog.

Born in Wales, James spent his formative years in Hong Kong while his Dad starred in 80’s kung-fu movies. The island setting proved an inspiration in Jimmo’s early sporting career as he developed a real talent for swimming; however his yearning for the green, green grass of Wales was such that he threatened to swim back to the UK if his family didn’t relocate to Cardiff. Here, his dedication for training allied to his talent in the pool elevated him to international level, although he was denied a place in the Welsh Commonwealth Games team as they couldn’t afford to make a swimming cap large enough to go over his ears.

James has since directed his competitive instincts to a number of sports which has seen him complete the Berlin Marathon, the ‘4’ Peaks Challenge and other cross-country adventure races. Indeed, such is his dedication to his fitness, his girlfriend has complained that he pays rent to the gym and just a monthly membership to his flat.

A real all-rounder for this journey, with his sporting prowess, a true sense of friendship allied to a sense of mischief, and that much undervalued commodity of common-sense, James is one of the rocks on which a successful challenge will be built.
