Tom (aka Grangey or "Wondering Moon")

Picture
Tom was born in Devises, Wiltshire, where there was little to do other than plan his escape from this inbred countryside town. Aside from underage cider drinking and using the local pensioners’ home as air gun target practice, Devizes also provided the perfect breeding ground for Tom to nurture and develop his talents and become the sporting machine he is today.

Tom finally implemented his escape plan, but only managed a short trip down the A4 to the University of Reading. Here he made the most of his freedom and decided to study cybernetics (or something of that ilk, although no one is quite sure). Despite the demanding nature of the course, Tom hid the geek side of his personality by a full commitment to sport. He particularly excelled at one sport which involved early mornings, water and going backwards - rowing. This is where Tom found his calling; hammering the ergo (rowing machine) by day and guzzling snakebite by night.

Since Reading, Tom escaped a little further to Henley on Thames to continue his (airbrushed) modelling and rowing careers (culminating in his numerous appearances at Henley Royal Regatta). Other sporting achievements include two-time Tough Guy (a cross country/assault course) and cycling from the East to the West coast of America; one man, one bike, one hell of a long way.

Wondering Moon is not one for planning but no one can question his ingenuity - he has been known to eat cornflakes with a fork using last night's empty crisp packet as a bowl whilst rushing to a rowing training session. Despite suffering from a rare "overtraining" condition Tom won't be heard complaining when things get tough. If everyone else is struggling, Tom is the man the LEJOG team can count on - he'll be up front, catching wind, burning a trail. Grangey is a pain-immune, adrenaline fuelled power-house; one of the good guys.
